Today both classes learned how to draw a lizard as well as wrote in their journal. The PM class was super excited to finally get their turn with Petland, and the AM class enjoyed library and a game of alphabet bingo. The AM class also enjoyed a presentation about expected and unexpected behaviors from a former Kindergarten student who is now in grade 1 (PM class will get their turn next week). Report cards have gone home today. Please return the envelope next week so we can reuse them in June.
Today the students were very excited to see the Canadian Climber out for gymnastics (I forgot to take pictures but will get some next gym class!). In math, we worked on representing the number 9. We learned a new winter song ("La niege tombe", posted under songs) and finished off the French letter sounds of the alphabet (X, Y, Z). Tomorrow is library for the AM class and Petland for the PM class.
Today, the students enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill, practiced patterns as a whole group and in partners, journaled about our word of the day (le chat), and learned how to draw one of our favorite cats, Pat le chat. February calendar is now posted!
Bonjour, I hope you all had a lovely weekend! Today the students enjoyed some new equipment in the gym for gymnastics, worked on representing the number 8 (with some PM students taking on a bit of a math challenge from me), and we continued with our French letter sounds. Both classes are now at "w". Tomorrow is library day for the PM class. Visits with Elder Randy Bottle have been postponed.
Today the AM class worked on more French letter sounds (the AM class has arrived at 'V', the PM class is at "U"), attending the school assembly where the topic was compassion, played tag games in the gym, worked in their journals and practiced the lockdown drill.
One thing we learned during the assembly was about the gr.3 community service project. Here is a message from them! "The grade 3 students at Varsity Acres are staring a community service project. How our school can help: The Drop-In Donation Center collects used and broken electronics and sells the parts to different organizations for money towards supporting their center. The Donation Center also give these items to strip wires to collect copper to steel and the metal is recycled. The money they receive from this is also collected by donation center and helps fund services and programs and the Drop-In centers and Donation center. They spread the funds according to need. We will be collecting donation of small, old, unwanted or broken electronics and appliances. Here are some examples of small, old, unwanted or broken electronics and appliances: old phones, chargers, coffee makers or toasters, irons, computer or TV cables, and hair dryers. Donations of these materials will start Monday January 28th until February 28th. There will be a labeled box for your donations next to the lost and found. Merci!" Students enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill, spent some time with their gr. 3 buddies (AM class, reading and playing games, PM class, learning a new song and doing some writing and illustrating) and working on more French letter sounds.
Bonjour! First of all, MERCI to everyone who made sure your child was prepared for our day. It was amazing to see that we had a close to 100% participation rate this year with beginner and experienced students all participating with a positive attitude. After some time outside, students enjoyed snack time while listening to Tyler from Hockey Canada talk a little bit more about Hockey. They are all coming home with the present of a French book, as well as the skating forms for the skating time in February.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up to join us tomorrow for our skating day. We're looking forward to a beautiful day full of exercise. Please remember to send in the forms tomorrow!
Today, students continued to work on routines in gymnastics, graphing in math, and numbers during center time. Our story today was about a little dog who forgot his manners, so it was a great revision of "s'il vous plaÎt" et "merci" for us! Wow! What a busy Monday! I'm not sure we could have fit much more in! Both classes started off their day with a bonus P.E. class to meet M. Bobby, a gymnast with Alberta Gymnastics (actually, the PM class also had a quick book exchange to start). The classes then had music with Mme Zdrill, we worked on another graph together in math (the students are already getting good at pulling out information), journaled, sang, and had center time (during which, we had a numeracy "must-do" center that some of the students also got to).
Please note, due to a glitch that didn't get resolved until today, skating forms for the Wednesday activity are going home tonight (PM class) or tomorrow (AM class). This means that you need to fill out and then put that form right back into your child's envelope and backpack! We're so sorry about the delay and rush, but if we don't get the form back by Wednesday, we can't allow your child to skate. Thank you for your understanding. As I'm sure most of you heard, Friday was a bit of a disappointing day for all when Petland didn't show up. We made the most of it and worked on our numbers from 1-5, had a great dance party in the gym, finished our snowmen craft and practiced our alphabet sounds. Petland has already been rescheduled for Jan. 31 for the PM class.
