The last day of Kindergarten! Always exciting, but a bit sad at the same time. It's hard to say goodbye after seeing so much progress and growth! Thank you to everyone for such a great year, and thank you so much for all the beautiful gifts and notes -I tried really hard not to cry when reading them! Have a fantastic summer and I'll see you in the fall when you come back for grade one!
Today we spent some time outside decorating the courtyard of the school with chalk. We also journaled (for the last time), read, sang, and enjoyed center time. We also spent a lot time checking out all our new butterflies! Reminder that tomorrow morning is the Farewell Assembly (8:45am). PM students are invited to attend with a parent.
We have a butterfly! Today we were so excited to have a butterfly come out .... while we were drawing butterflies (AM class)! The students also enjoyed their last music class with Mme Zdrill, reading with flashlights and journaling.
Tomorrow your child will bring home their final Kindergarten report card. As this is possibly only your second report card, I want to take a quick minute to remind you that everyone has made progress this year. While a mark might sometimes look the same or different, know that the expectations to achieve that mark have gone up. It has been a true pleasure to get to know each and every child in the class and I am so proud of how much they have grown this year. Merci. Here we are in our final week of Kindergarten... how quickly the year has passed! We decided that we would try to sing every song we've learned this year, but realized that we've learned so many, we have to split them up over the next few days! Today the students had their final P.E. class, painted caterpillars in patterns, and had their Monday Sharing Circle. We didn't have time for reading with flashlights today, so will do that tomorrow. I'm starting to send work home now, so please empty your child's envelope or backpack every day, merci!
Today we had our indoor Sports Day. We started the day by having a sharing circle and an acknowledgement of the land, and then in groups of 2-3, the students moved around the school to the various centers. W.S. says "Today was good! I liked the robot center. Thanks mom for helping!" We then came back to the class for our snack (with bonus orange slices) and we invited the other Kindergarten students in to do some dancing, watch Peppa Pig in French, and sing a song together. We finished our day with center time. Despite the rain, we had a fun day full of community spirit!
Today we had our last visit with our gr. 3 learning buddies. In addition to reading together, the AM class received some special cards and the PM class learned a new game. Both classes enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill, recess, and center time. We also read the book Kindergarten Rocks and talked about all the things we've done this year that were in the book. We had a good laugh remembering how scared, nervous and excited we all were at the beginning of the year!
Thank you to all the families that helped the Kindies practice for their homework presentations, bravo! The students did a great job of answering their questions today. It also sounds like you're all doing some fun activities and trips this summer! The AM students got to see an assembly with Frisbee Rob and both classes had a bonus P.E. class with him. Reminder to all families that we are still going out for recess every day, so please send appropriate clothes (sweaters, coats, etc.). Merci!
Today was very exciting for the Kindies because we went to visit a gr.1 class! The AM class got to see part of their morning calendar routine, and the PM class got to hear about some of the things the gr.1's did this year as well as listen to them read to us. Did you know that the gr.1's have all read at least 100 books this year? Wow! I told the kids that next year, it would be their turn to read to the younger students.... they're all pretty excited! We also played some games in gym and did two pages of journaling today!
An exciting start to our week! Both classes enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill and a very interesting presentation all about bees. As a special treat, each student is coming home with a small container of honey. Reminder that all library books should now be returned and that our last monthly homework presentation will be on Wednesday.
Thank you to all the families who came out to see our Kindergarten presentation this morning. The kids were very proud of themselves! We also worked on some basic addition, went outside, participated in the school fire drill, had some flashlight reading time, and of course, enjoyed centers and snack. Have a great weekend everyone!
