Today we had a very successful Terry Fox Run. I was so proud of the efforts of the Kindies. Thank you to the PM families that also came out to join us! Room 3A (AM & PM) collected $45 for cancer research. Stayed tuned for the school update on how much we raised in total! Here are a few of the pictures that turned out (it's tricky to capture students when they're running by you!)! Reminder that Monday is Orange Shirt Day (and jour orange). I also added the October calendar and newsletter yesterday! Have a great weekend everyone.... I'll be at the CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, so maybe I'll see you there!
Today, our math lesson was about sorting. We sorted as a group and then during center time, students were invited to come to the teacher table to show off how they could sort buttons. Sorting by colour was the most popular first choice, but we also had some more creative ways including shape, size, types of button holes, and even "most beautiful and not beautiful"! We also worked on the circular letters O and Q (this will be tomorrow for the AM group) and enjoyed P.E. in the gym with M. Trevor. Side note: I've added a link under resources for both M. Trevor's and Mme Zdrill's (music) Weebly pages.
Our 'mot du jour' today was POMME (apple) and to coincide with it, a new center opened today: the science table. Students will be encouraged to ask questions, explore and discover different themes throughout the year at this center. Today, students were encouraged to find out how many apple seeds were in la pomme. In the AM, students were very excited by the very long snake they created together, so we had an impromptu estimation and counting challenge! In the PM, students meet their gr. 3 learning buddies for the first time (AM group will start in October). We also focused on representing the number 3 (trois) in math.
Important note: The Terry Fox run is being rescheduled to Friday instead of tomorrow (due to weather). PM class is invited to join on Friday morning with a supervising adult for the assembly and run. Today we watched a short movie about Terry Fox (link here), discussed courage and goals, and colored and cut shoes to remind us of Terry Fox.
We also started working on circular letters (U, C) and continued to practice our French songs. Jour bleu: In addition to the #1 time of the day (centers), we read a couple of books about colors, did some fine motor work in blue (cutting, glueing, stamping), practiced for the Terry Fox run outside, and started learning a tricky new song (which can be found with our other songs)!
We are also collecting donations for the Terry Fox run - if you send a loonie or toonie in, please put it in your child's envelope and I'll add it to our class collection. Reminder that PM families are invited to come for the AM assembly on Thursday and stay for the run! Thank you to everyone for coming in today and tomorrow! A few quick notes:
-Scholastic orders for September are due by tomorrow, Sept. 21. -Monday is jour bleu (please dress your child in blue) -I've added a new section to this site: under "more", you will find a few resources I want to highlight Merci tout le monde et bonne journée! Wednesday included P.E. outside with M. Trevor, working on our T and I ("so easy, Madame!"), and for the PM class, listening to a story read by a classmate. In addition, both classes are enjoying the painting center that opened as an option this week.
I also want to share an idea for something fun to do with your child this weekend : Doors Open YYC. If you've never checked it out - I highly recommend this once-a-year opportunity to take your child on fun, educational visits to sites around the city that are normally closed to the public (they're also free)! Maybe we'll bump into each other! I'm pleased to share that students are starting to get into our entry routine. Most of them are remembering to bring out their envelope and snack (and where to put them), get their shoes on, and proceed to the "mot du jour" and the blue bins (often fine motor activities) or books. This entry routine promotes student independence and allows for students to get started with their day without having to wait for anyone. Today in math we worked on representing the number 2 (deux). Students also enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill. Quick reminder that Scholastic orders are due by Friday at the latest. Merci!
Bonjour, I hope everyone had a great weekend! In addition to being 'jour jaune', we continued to work on our letter formation (we've started with letters with verticals and horizontal: L, E, F, H, and will complete T and I this week). The PM group also had a mini-lesson on using shapes to draw people. They were so impressed with the difference between their self-portraits on the first day of school and what they produced today!
Thank you to everyone who came out at 7:15am for our Welcome Breakfast!
Today, we practiced our first fire drill and the PM Kindies were amazing! I was so proud of how well they listened to instructions and followed our procedures to stay safe. Bravo! Work continued in letter formation today. Reminder, now that the weather is changing, please help your child gain independence by helping them practice zipping up their coat. Merci et bon weekend! |
