"J'aime les fruits" was a big focus of today as we used our new song as inspiration to write in our journal and learned how to draw a bowl of fruit. We also played our math subtizing addition/subtraction game of "Splat", and enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill. Bravo to all the students who came with crazy hair today!
Thank you to everyone who supported Pink Shirt Day! We had some good conservations around a couple of books, traced and cut out pink hands to show our support, and wrote in our journals. Students also enjoyed floor hockey in gym and learned a new song for our March theme of food and healthy living (link is up under songs). Reminder that tomorrow is library for the PM class.
Bonjour tout le monde! Today the students enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill and literacy with their gr. 3 learning buddies. We also went through a few word bins in French and had a station during center time to finish any unfinished work. I forgot to mention Pink Shirt Day to the students today, so please discuss it tonight and I encourage you all to wear pink shirts tomorrow to show that you do not tolerate bullying. If you would like more information, click here. We will talk about this as a class tomorrow.
Mme Michelle was away. Students spent most of their time in different math centers related to sorting objects (based on size, colour, shape, etc).
Today the AM class had a great morning at Telus Spark. One of my favourite quotes from today was: "Madame, I think there's some science left on me from the Science Centre!", and I believe that there are now a few more children who want to be scientists when they're older. Merci to all the parents who joined us today - you made today easy!
Reminder that it's library on Monday for the AM class. Have a great weekend! Vive l'hiver! Today was a fun day all about art and winter. We used Sharpies (even though: "Mme, my mom says I'm not allowed to use Sharpies!") and oil pastels to represent our quick venture outside yesterday to catch some of the falling snowflakes. Students also went to the gym with M. Trevor and we've started playing a game where I give the students a beginning sound and they have to come up with a word in French that starts with it.
Reminder for the AM class that we're heading to Telus Spark tomorrow. Please be on time! Today our focus was on our oral presentations about family. It was so great to see all your family photos - merci! The students really enjoyed looking at them once I got them on the wall. We discussed not only how we can improve our presentations but also what it means to be a good audience member. We talked about how getting a little bit better every time is the most important part of our assessment. The students also enjoyed music class today and we managed to squeeze in some journaling in between center time, library (PM), morning routine, etc.
What a beautiful day to go outside! We greatly enjoyed getting out of the building today. I also noticed that some of the skating skills have improved in the last month! Thank you to all the parents who came to help tie laces - you are great appreciated, MERCI! Once inside, Kindergarten enjoyed snack and center time, and then we read a story about a young crocodile that gets angry at his friend and discussed different strategies he could have used instead of yelling, grabbing and hurting others. Ask your child what they can do when they feel angry, frustrated or upset. Reminder that tomorrow is library for the PM class and that both classes are presenting their February homework. I also wanted to share this quote that really stood out for me at Teacher's Convention last week:
Bonhomme, Bonhomme! We saw Bonhomme today! For the AM class, he came by for a visit and for the PM class, he came by for a visit AND he marched with us outside during the parade!
Both classes also enjoyed a Carnaval-themed music class, decorated lunch bags, and delivered their special mail to each other. In the AM, we also managed to squeeze in a bit of journal time. Reminder that we will be going ice skating on Tuesday, and I will be submitting Scholastic orders tonight. February homework is also coming up on the 20th (please also remember to send in a photo or two on that we can put up on display). Today, the students and I spent some time looking at and learning vocabulary for 8 more letters of the alphabet (with the help of alphabet discovery bins). The AM class enjoyed their croissants and hot chocolate, and both classes spent some time braiding bracelets with their gr.3 buddies in celebration of Carnaval.
Reminder that tomorrow is the last day for February Scholastic orders (and I know some of you still have Christmas coupons!) and that we will be exchanging Valentine's tomorrow (list of names was sent home a couple of weeks ago in the same email as the February homework). |
