Bonjour tout le monde! Can you believe that tomorrow is Dec. 1? How did that happen?! Today, the AM class worked on the lowercase letters 'q' and 'r', painted winter birch trees, played some games in the gym and listened to another version of the gingerbread man in French (this time, it was a mouse family that lost their gingerbread man!). During center time, some students also worked on their oral French vocabulary skills with a "bonhomme et hiver" story box center (with the support of another teacher, Mme W., who joined us in the classroom).
Reminder that tonight is the last night for Scholastic orders and the PM class has library on Monday. December Calendar/Newsletter is also up on our site and the December homework is going home via email. Please ensure you've subscribed to School Messenger to receive it. Click here if you haven't! The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School was the story of the day, and both classes really enjoyed this take on our familiar story. Make sure to ask your child what was "la même" and what was "différent" about it! Following our reading, students were placed in groups and tasked with building a bridge that could help a gingerbread man cross a river (as that's usually where our main character's problem happens). Every group received the same amount of materials and instructions. Did you know that working together is a skill? This is something that the students learned about today! Both classes really enjoyed the challenged and were excited to present and test their "ponts" (bridges). Click on the photos below to see them in action! Both classes also went to the gym today and the PM class also worked on the lowercase letters 'm' and 'n'.
Today, both classes heard yet another version of the Gingerbread Man and discussed similarities and differences. The AM class worked on lowercase 'm' and 'n'. Both classes also enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill, and got together with their gr.3 buddies. With buddies, the AM class started putting together a book that we'll be using in another week (so lots of fine motor work today), and the PM class spent most of the afternoon outside playing games using their sense of hearing and representing numbers out of snow. The PM class also had snack, some reading time and watched a small dance presentation from their buddies. After, they showed them our 'danse des pingouins'! Reminder that Friday is the last day to order Scholastic for 2018!
,Today the students and I started reading some stories for our gingerbread story study. We read a traditional version of The Gingerbread Man and compared it to the story, The Gingerbread Baby. We talked about what was "la même" and what was "différent" . We also played our "Splat" math game today, as well as went to gym with M. Trevor. Reminder that tomorrow is library for the AM group as well as class photo day for both groups. Tomorrow is also the last day to purchase chocolate for the school fundraiser. I'm also adding new literacy resources to our 'resources' page - today I've added information about TumbleBooks - a great way to listen to French stories!
Today, both classes played "Fire and Ice" in gym, listened to the story "Ours écoute", and spent one last day with the Fort Calgary artifact kit. The AM class drew their favorite objects and the PM class looked and thought about the objects from the past and how they would look today. Both classes also played a math game called "Splat". I use this game to work on subtilizing (recognizing groups of dots at a glance), basic mental math (addition and subtraction) and French language development. We will continue to use this game throughout the year. Thank you to the parent volunteers this week - your help has been greatly appreciated! Reminder that there is no school for Kindergarten students tomorrow or Friday due to conferences. Merci!
Today both classes met with their gr. 3 buddies to work on patterns through beading (similar to the beading that the First Nations use to decorate objects with). They also had music class with Mme Zdrill, as well as continued to explore the buffalo artifacts kit.
Thank you to everyone who has booked in for our conferences on Thursday or Friday. If you have not already done so, please sign up as soon as possible. This is our first reporting period and we will be discussing the results of your child's EYE assessment. December Scholastic flyers are going home today with a deadline to order of Nov. 30. This allows for any last Christmas present orders to be placed and returned to the school before the holidays. Today, the AM class starting learning about the buffalo and also painted their buffalo. We have quite a beautiful herd outside the classroom now! The AM class also visited the library this morning. The PM group spent more time with the artifacts today, observing, reflecting and drawing their favourite object. Both groups also practiced the lowercase letter 'j'.
Today, the PM class started exploring le bison. We read the story Hidden Buffalo, painted mini-buffalo (they came out beautifully!), started exploring artifacts, and had a picture walk with partners. The students had lots of great comments to share throughout the morning and I'm excited for the next week as we spend more time with the kit we've borrowed from Fort Calgary. We also had a quick practice of our lowercase letters to-date, went to the gym to play some games and had a few more Show and Tell presentations. Please remember that the booking system for PT Conferences opens this afternoon and that the AM class has library on Monday. Merci beaucoup et bon weekend!
Hi everyone, today the Kindies worked on the letters 'h' and 'i', played with the Omnikin ball in PE, and presented their Show and Tell items. I loved how supportive and encouraging all the students were for each other! If your child forgot their paper, I will have them present when they bring it in (that way, I'm able to help them when they forget what they wanted to say). We will fit in the missing ones tomorrow (PM class) or Monday (AM class). We also started learning a new song/dance: La dance des pingouins! Check out our song page for the link.
If you feel you did not receive the email from me on Oct. 31, please contact the main office to review your account on file, as this means that you're not receiving any of our school emails (I am unable to review or change any emails on file). Merci! I am also still looking for classroom volunteers on Dec. 13 for our gingerbread making day. We won't be able to proceed with this activity if we don't have some extra hands. Merci! |
