Sorry for forgetting to post yesterday! Here are some pictures of AM students working with their gr.3 buddies (make sure to check out their bulletin board across the hall from us), excitement over new play dough, and the PM class coming up with moves for our song "J'aime les fruits". If I don't see you at conferences today and tomorrow, I'm wishing you all a lovely spring break!
A full day for us! Journaling, library (PM class), music class, math graphs, and some fine motor work to represent 'une bonne assiette', left only a small amount of time for center time today. I promised the kids that I would make sure they had more time tomorrow!
Bonjour tout le monde! Today we spent time on healthy teeth and measuring/comparing our feet with non-standardized measurement (cubes). During the dental presentations, students watched 4.5 mins of a video. Some asked if they could see the entire video so I'm sharing the link here in case you want to watch it with your child. Students also enjoyed dance games and making up their own dances in gym with M. Trevor. Reminder that tomorrow is library for the PM class. Also, if you happen to have any magazines, flyers, etc. at home that have pictures of food in them (and you don't need them anymore), could you please send them in tomorrow? I'm a bit short for an activity we're doing. Thanks for your help!
A big congratulations to everyone for their great dance moves this morning at our showcase! Also, a huge thank you to the PM families who brought their students in - we were thrilled you were able to make it!
AM students also worked with gr. 4 students on their introduction to IRIS. They have brought home their ID numbers and passwords to show you what they picked to upload. Please remember to send the card back on Monday, merci! At the end of our morning, the students and I watched a 5 minute story in French together. I challenged them to use their eyes and ears to try to figure out the story. We then discussed words we heard and images we saw to construct meaning. It was exciting for everyone to realize that even though it wasn't in English, we could understand! Have a great weekend everyone - enjoy the weather! Today, both classes enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill (who also has a Weebly site if you want more details!). In math, we watched 2, two-minute videos on how we can measure weight and volume, and then tested out a couple of containers to see if they could hold the same amount of water even though they looked different. Students enjoyed using the scales during center time to find out which objects were heavier than each other. The AM class also had their last Hip Hop practice, and the PM class worked with their learning buddies on their drawing skills (using shapes to draw each other). Reminder to everyone to wear green tomorrow for our performance!
Just a reminder that tomorrow the Kindergarten students (AM + PM classes) will be performing their dance at the 8:30-9:15am Showcase in the gym. In case your child wants to practice tonight, here is the song they're dancing to:
Two Way - Lil Romeohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VNOJBKQzZg What to wear: St-Patricks green ,Today we had our healthy eating workshop. Students discussed what the different groups on the food guide are and what they help us with, as well as what sugary foods and drinks do to us. Everyone enjoyed their healthy pita snack (everyone had to put in at least 1 vegetable) and got to try what a fruit bar without added sugar tastes like. All students have brought home a small bag of pita bread, a sample of WOW Butter and a real fruit bar. I've also sent home a notice about the Scholastic book fair that will be taking place during conferences. On the back there's an entry for a draw. Please fill in your child's information and return it to me to give them the chance to win $25 in books. In addition to our healthy snack, we journaled, and the AM class went to the library. The PM class enjoyed listening to a classmate read a book today (and then provided feedback). Please note, that tomorrow is PJ Day for the school. Your child is welcome to come to school in their pyjamas!
Today we focused on nutrition. We read a book about cupcakes and then talked about junk food. We made class graphs with junk food and then discussed healthy eating and healthy living. We then looked at the pictures brought in yesterday and sorted them to look like the plate from the new health guide. All students have been challenged to talk about healthy living tonight at dinner, and then again tomorrow when they know even more. With our healthy eating workshop tomorrow, we will be preparing a healthy snack, so no need to send any other snacks in for class. Reminder that tonight is the last night for March Scholastic orders and that it's library tomorrow for the AM class. PM class, a reminder to return the orange IRIS ID's and passwords that were sent home on Friday - we will need them again, merci!
Bonjour tout le monde! Today the students enjoyed showing me the dance moves they learned while I was away, so we used that as our journal inspiration. When your child is drawing at home, remind them that we no longer accept stick people and that they should be using shapes to draw. We also presented our food homework today (for the AM class, we gave our university student-volunteer a chance to be the helper). The students are getting better at giving each other feedback: something we liked, or something for the person to keep getting better at, all while trying to be encouraging of each other (for example, "you spoke louder today than last time, bravo!"). Students also enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill and library for the PM class. Note: I will extend Scholastic deadline for this month until tomorrow as I will not be getting to it tonight.
