Lots of energy in class today! Today, the students discussed similarities and differences between two Halloween books, did a directed drawing of a pumpkin and ghost, had a ghost math number recognition and cutting activity and had spooky centers (that included making magic potions in the sand table and Halloween patterns). Have a fun and safe Halloween night! Please keep the candy and treats at home tomorrow, merci!
Bonjour tout le monde! Today the students played various tag games in gym, and worked on the capital letters M & N. I continued with EYE evaluations during center time. The morning class also had our assistant principal join for a story and some printing work while I did some extra evaluations. Reminder that tomorrow is "jour noir" for both groups, and library for the AM class.
Today the Kindergarten students enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill as well as read a story about les citrouilles and estimated, explored and counted the seeds in our small pumpkins. The afternoon class wondered if a bigger pumpkin had more seeds than a small pumpkin, so we cut it open to find out.... we noticed right away the difference in size in the seeds and will count tomorrow to see if our new estimations were close or not.
Please note, as the Kindergarten students are new to our school this year and never met our dear Mr. Murray, I did not discuss the school news today. For families with older siblings in the school, please email me if any family discussions that occur tonight might impact our day tomorrow. Merci. Today there was a lot of excitement about the Halloween Dance tonight! We did manage to fit a few other discussions in around costume and Halloween plans! Both classes finished their skills portion of the EYE in PE. We worked on the letter "A" in printing, we looked for and read about the color of the day (blanc), and we welcomed some more student teachers into our room for observations. The AM class also met with their buddies. Both classes sang ALL their songs today, and it is evident by how well some students know them, that some of you are also hearing all the songs every night - bravo!
Lots of math today! We continued to work on patterns using manipulatives and then in our math journals. The PM class also worked on number recognition with their learning buddies (AM group will get this tomorrow). During center time, we had some new additions to our water table and the science table was used for exploring mass. How heavy is 1 pumpkin? Can you weigh 2 pumpkins? Students also met our other music teacher, Mme Edgitt, today in music class.
Parents, I plan on changing the house center on Friday. If you or your family do not participate in Halloween, can you please let me know via email? My plan is something 'spooky'! What a beautiful day to spend outside! Today the Kindies walked to Research Park where they made patterns using nature, enjoyed snack and a story, and went on a scavenger hunt. They also enjoyed a bit of free play time. We look forward to going back in the winter to discover how the park has changed. A huge 'merci' to our parent volunteers who re-arranged schedules and more, to make sure that we were able to meet our ratio today!
Please note, that while the PM class enjoyed the afternoon weather, some students in the AM class experienced challenges due to having clothing or footwear that was not warm enough for the temperatures at 8:30am. For the safety and enjoyment of all students and volunteers, in the future, we may have to leave any students that are not appropriately dressed at school. Thank you for your understanding. Bonjour tout le monde! Today was jour rose: we read a rose story, as well as wrote and represented rose. The AM class also worked on the letter K in printing (PM class did this on Friday). Both classes continued to demonstrate some of their gross motor skills in gym. Thanks to the parents who volunteered to join us tomorrow - we are now able to go on our walking trip. Please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor wear, a water bottle and a small snack bag (I will be transporting these in a wagon)! The AM class also has library tomorrow, so they will have a quick book exchange time when they get back to the school after our walk.
Bonjour tout le monde! In addition to the usual routines, today the Kindies enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill, worked on the letters "B" and "R", and had an introduction to patterns (math). Mme Courtney (our AP) came and visited with the PM class while they had center time. She will be spending time with the AM class in the coming week (this is in effort to get to know all the students). EYE assessments continue in any spare moment I've got, so I apologize for not getting any pictures today. Tomorrow, Mme Zdrill will be in the classroom in my place, so there will be no update. Reminder that Monday is "jour rose". Also, next Tuesday, we're supposed to be going on a walking field trip to Research Park. At this time, I have only 1 parent volunteer for each class. If we don't get a minimum of 3 parents per class, unfortunately, the walk will have to be cancelled.
Busy day! In addition to our daily entry routine, story, singing and center time, today the AM class had a visit with our OT to work on scissor skills. Both classes also worked on the following skills in gym: skipping, balancing, jumping, catching / throwing a ball, kicking a ball. We all worked on the letter "P" in printing, as well as had a science/math station where the students had to predict which ribbon would measure around a small pumpkin and then test the ribbons to find out which one actually worked! The PM class also found a new song that they wanted to add to the website. We also had 2 student teachers observing both in the AM and PM, so we hope they learned a lot! Reminder for PM class: tomorrow is library day!
Jour vert! Unfortunately, our presentation today was cancelled at 7:50am, so I had to do some quick re-planning for our day! Both classes had music with Mme Zdrill today, as well as learning buddies. The AM group worked on math skills and the PM group listened to stories and worked on colour and letter recognition with their grade 3 friends. I also took both groups outside to go on a green colour hunt and play a game of tag.
