Today both classes worked on their soccer skills outside, played a math subitizing game, learned how to draw a 'real' caterpillar and journaled. The AM class also practiced for their presentation tomorrow and are excited to use a real microphone (instead of the stick I make them practice with!)! Reminder to AM families, everyone is invited to meet us in the gym for an 8:45am start for our sharing assembly. Thank you to everyone who continues to send in their loose parts (clean bottle lids, corks, etc.) - it is much appreciated!
What a perfect day for a picnic! Both classes (and their buddies) had a great time eating their snack outside, listening to a story, playing parachute games and being surprised by bubbles! They also enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill and recess. In addition, the AM class journaled about their picnic and practiced for their presentation on Friday. Reminder that Friday is the last day for all library books to be returned to the school as Mme Barb is starting her end of year clean up. Thank you for your help with this.
What a beautiful day to spend at the park! Both classes were very excited to see some of the changes since our last visit (especially the baby ducks!). We started our work by reading the book "If you Find a Rock" and then went to find special rocks. The students had to draw their rocks and share with an adult why they chose them. After that, students used natural materials to 'write' their names. Free time, snack and another story in French filled up the rest of our visit. Be on the lookout for rocks and shells in pockets and a few children will have wet shoes and socks! A big thank you to the parents that joined us today. You're help made the day easy for us! Reminder that tomorrow we're having our Teddy Bear Picnic with our learning buddies. Students are allowed to wear their PJ's and bring a special stuffed friend to school, if they wish. Please also send a snack that's easy to eat outside.
Today was a very full day! The AM class practiced for their upcoming assembly (parents, please remember to help your child practice their line that was emailed out on Friday), had their Sharing Circle, observed and wrote about the caterpillars, and went outside for recess and PE. The PM class also went outside for recess and PE, had a surprise fire drill (I was very proud of how they reacted!), and had Sharing Circle and observations/ journaling of caterpillars. Both classes also spent their Monday reading time with flashlights. Reminder that I will be submitting Scholastic orders tonight and that tomorrow we are going on our last walking trip to Research Park. Please ensure you dress your child for the weather, and send them with a hat and water bottle. Please also put sunscreen on your child before sending them to school tomorrow. Merci!
Our caterpillars finally arrived! Unfortunately, it was in the afternoon, so our morning class didn't get a chance to see them, but I've added some pictures here for them to see. The AM class started practicing for their assembly next week, and the PM class went to the library and spent some time journaling about recess today. Both classes also enjoyed music with Mme Edgitt. I am still looking for two more AM parents to join us on June 11. Merci and have a great weekend!
Today the students started the soccer unit in PE, and were introduced to a new song about summer (that we'll start singing more often as we get closer to summer). We also talked about how important reading every day is and wrote in our journals about reading. Reminder that tomorrow is library for the PM class.
Today students enjoyed music with Mme Zdrill, spent some time with their gr. 3 learning buddies, learned another new song in class, and enjoyed some new materials during center time. Thank you to the families that send in your loose parts or unwanted items - as you can see by the photo, golf turf, rocks, wood, felt pieces and a few dinosaurs can be used to create entire worlds and stories! To note: Flower orders that were not picked up last week at the school will be sent home today and tomorrow and the last Scholastic order for the year is due by Monday. Merci!
Today our last month of Kindergarten began and preparations for gr. 1 started with our first official recess with the rest of the school! We started learning a new song today (Les poissons), and used it to talk about how the alphabet sounds combine to make other sounds (such as 'on' and 'in'). We painted flowers (using non-traditional materials), as well as turned off all the lights to do our reading in the dark (with the flashlights). The AM class also learned more about the life cycle of the butterfly and went to the library. VAS is hosting the Kindergarten Open House on Thursday evening. If you know of a family that is starting Kindergarten in the fall, please encourage one of the parents to attend (even if they already have a child in the school). Merci beaucoup!
What a smokey day - ugh! That said, the Kindergarten students brought all the sunshine they had to our assembly. Congrats to the PM class for a fantastic presentation! I was so proud of them and their confidence! For the rest of the day we read about the life cycle of the butterfly and then working in pairs, re-created the life cycle. After a well-deserved center time, we then watched a short movie that showed us the life cycle of a monarch butterfly. Ask your child what they know about les chenilles et les papillions - it will be impressive! Have a great weekend!
Today the students participated in their last tennis lesson for the year in PE, continued with putting objects in order from biggest to smallest and smallest to biggest, practiced recess, and learned more about caterpillars and butterflies. Reminder to the PM class to practice for the assembly tomorrow!
